Thistle Island is located just over 9km off-shore at the mouth of Spencer Gulf & 4okm from Port Lincoln, South Australia. Thistle Island is ideally positioned to combine the attractions of island living with convenient access to mainland facilities.

The Island

Even the major mainland town of Port Lincoln is less than 2 1/2 hours sailing time from the island. At this famous and historic sea port you have access to the complete range of services - from excellent loading facilities to every other kind of domestic service.
Port Lincoln is a thriving city of approximately 13,500 and is the heart of the Tuna fishing industry and is known as a leader in seafood and aquaculture developments.
Keeping in touch ~ Communications arrangements and facilities between Thistle Island and the mainland emphasise the advantages of seclusion, without isolation.
For those arriving or departing by air, there is a private air strip on Thistle capable of handling larger aircraft such as The Flying Doctor." Flying time from Port Lincoln is around 15 minutes, and only one hour direct from Adelaide.

If arriving by boat there are numerous safe anchorages all around the island. Whaler's Bay is among the most popular and is in fact rated as being one of the best natural anchorages in South Australia. Sailing time from Port Lincoln is approximately 2 1/2 hours.
All plant, equipment and stock is ferried from Port Lincoln by barge and an motorised crane is available at Whaler's Bay for loading and unloading.
