The big ones are waiting ~ Anywhere within a 25km radius of Thistle Island offers some of the best fishing prospects to be found anywhere around Australia. To the south, around Dangerous Reef and the Neptune Islands, the waters abound with near world record White Pointer Sharks. These ravenous monsters are ready and waiting to pit their wits against any deep-sea fisherman who is looking for the ultimate challenge.
Sharks are not the only big fish in the sea around these parts. Magnificent tuna and snapper can be found in great abundance. In fact, no matter where you venture round Thistle Island, prime quality catches seem to be lining up in wait for a line to be cast - and a fisherman worthy of their attention. Safe Harbour ~ Apart from the exceptional fishing prospects, boating and sailing off Thistle Island is made even more enjoyable by the number of safe anchorages all around the coast. 
In addition to several small bays and coves, "Whalers Bay", "Michaelmas Bay" and "Snug Cove", provide excellent all weather protection throughout the year. Safe, all-weather anchorages can also be found on most of the other islands in the area.
Whatever type of fishing you are looking for, the seas around Thistle Island have a rich harvest in store.
From the beach ~ Cast a line from any of Thistle Island's beautiful beaches and almost before you can reach for alight refreshment - you're busy hauling in the first catch of many .... Whiting, Tommy Ruff, Flathead, Salmon, Garfish - and many more - are here for the taking.

The numerous points and promontories around the coast are the perfect venues for great rock fishing. Sweep, Salmon, Snook and Snapper are among the most plentiful of the many varieties waiting to be caught.

Sitting off-shore ~ Combine the best of both worlds and both catches, by casting a casual line from the comfort of your boat. Or perhaps drop a few pots to take advantage of the abundance of succulent local crays.

Or roaming the deep ~ Deep-sea fishing around Thistle Island gives you all the challenge and excitement you can handle! As well as being the home of the mighty White Pointer shark, these waters are also a happy hunting ground for those seeking the Southern Bluefin tuna. Top quality Tuna are here for the taking, and catches between 30 and 60 kg are a regular event!
